From Inclusivity to Decentralization
psychology, done differently
Welcome!
My name is Dr. Jem Tosh (they/she)
I'm the Founding Director of Psygentra, an organisation that specialises in the psychology of gender and trauma. What makes us different, is our focus on critical and creative perspectives, as well as our commitment to building an inclusive, empowering, and supportive educational community.
Our Purpose
Research
We aim to intervene at a societal level by influencing understanding and discussions around rape culture, heteronormativity, racism, white supremacy, settler colonial violence and oppression, ableism, classism, and cisgenderism.
Education
We aim to intervene at a group level by influencing service delivery and available support by centering our training around the experiences and lives of marginalised people.
Support
We aim to intervene at an individual and community level by offering personalised support through consultations and anti-oppressive and affirmative trauma therapy with survivors of abuse.
Our Values
Intersectionality
Our work is intersectional and recognises the multiple interconnected systems of privilege and oppression that shape our lives and identities.
Slow Scholarship
Psygentra promotes slow scholarship. This combines our commitment to quality work by taking our time and developing a project, as well as countering ableist and capitalist norms of productivity and pressure.
Anti-Oppressive
We recognise that anti-oppressive work requires constantly learning and unlearning and we commit to this process. Sexism, racism, homophobia, biphobia, ableism, and transphobia are not tolerated at Psygentra.
Our Collective
Scholars from across Canada contribute to our research institute and have an important role in shaping Psygentra's future.
